I honestly believe that my story is no different from yours. I love writing "my story" because it gives me another chance to see how God strategically places me with the right people at the right time even when I think I've been left by the wayside. Looking back on my story reminds me that nothing "just happens" & that regardless of how I feel on one particular day, I am truly a blessed woman.
I was born in a charming southern town, Charleston, South Carolina. I'm the descendants of Gullah-Geechee slaves whose culture gave me a unique accent that comes out only when I'm mad or talking to family. People always ask if my family & I are from Jamaica (as if no other islands exist in the Caribbean) but nope! I'm just a 28-year old southern belle who has tapped into her inner wanderlust. After 10 years & 3 cities, I now call sunny San Diego home with my amazing husband & sweet furbaby.
The Wanderlust Bug
It all started in Atlanta (shoutout to the real GSU--Georgia State University) where I received my bachelor's degrees in Biology & Chemistry. After graduation, my fear of the real world (aka the workforce) sent me to the Windy City where I got my master's degree in Pharmacognosy & ran smack into the love of my life. I've never been the prettiest, slimmest, or most popular girl & I honestly thought I'd never meet my soulmate. But, as God would have it, I found mine in a movie theater in downtown Chicago while watching The Hangover 3 LOL. After 5 years of freezing our asses off in Chiberia, hubby & I packed up all of our belongings and headed west in search for purpose, destiny & more school 🙃 . You'd think that I'd get tired of school, right? Well, yes & no.
What in the hell am I doing with my life??
My degree in Pharmacognosy left me unfulfilled & even more confused about what I was supposed to do with my life. So, under the recommendation of a dear friend, I started to research the field of naturopathic medicine. And wouldn't you know it, I found my true calling! Naturopathic medicine is a field of medicine that focuses on supporting the body's innate ability to heal itself with the least invasive treatments possible. This includes botanical medicine (herbs 🌱🌿 ), homeopathy, diet & lifestyle counseling, etc.
I've always wanted to be a doctor but decided in college that biomedical research was where I should be. To no surprise, 22 year old Sarah didn't know what the fuck she was talking about but I think 28 year old Sarah has a better grasp on reality (lets hope 😂 ). Even though I was dog tired of being a student & emotionally scarred from graduate school I decided to press on & move to San Diego to start Naturopathic Medical School!
